IPW, SSC meet with City of Winnipeg reps about Newcomer Welcome and Inclusion Policy

July 31, 2024 — On Wednesday, the Immigrant Partnership Winnipeg (IPW) staff met with representatives from the Community Development Office and Equity Office of the City of Winnipeg to discuss the implementation of the Newcomer Welcome and Inclusion Policy. Also present was Monika Feist, CEO of Success Skills Centre (SSC), a community-based organization dedicated to helping immigrant professionals and skilled workers find employment matching their credentials. The meeting utilized a hybrid format, with some participants attending virtually while others gathering in person at the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg Office.


In attendance for IPW were Executive Director Reuben Garang, along with Project Managers Carolina Meneses Zamora and Kris Ontong. Representing the City of Winnipeg were Bradley West and Diane Burell from the Equity Office, and Chris Brens and Gololcha Boru from the Community Development Office.

Based on the information and insights that were shared, participants regarded the gathering as productive. This led Executive Director Garang to remark after the meeting that, “regular engagement and dialogue is important in fostering a more inclusive community. It is a way of reaffirming our collective commitment in making Winnipeg a more welcoming and supportive city for immigrants and newcomers.”
